It started with an iris…

My artistic journey began in fourth grade when a teacher recognized something creative in me. She suggested to my mom that I take painting classes, and before long I submitted two paintings to the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo — one in fourth grade and another in fifth. Both earned my family a trip to the rodeo, and I was hooked.

From that point on, I took every art class I could. By high school, I had exhausted the available courses, so the school created an “art period” for me where I assisted the art teacher. In her workroom, she was creating a large stained glass piece that immediately caught my eye. I was fascinated, but at the time stained glass felt out of reach because of the expense.

After college, I built a career in graphic design and later spent more than two decades leading a performing arts nonprofit. When the pandemic brought everything to a halt, I suddenly had time to reflect and reconnect with creative pursuits. I remembered that stained glass window from high school, signed up for a class, and immediately fell in love. My first piece was this iris.

Stained glass combines everything I enjoy: technical design, intentional color choices, and hands-on craftsmanship. Creating patterns that work in glass, carefully selecting colors, cutting each piece, and soldering it all together requires patience and precision. It’s not always easy — my sliced fingers can prove that — but there’s nothing more satisfying than seeing a finished piece come to life.

I love challenges, experimenting with new designs, and bringing ideas into color and light. If you have a vision in mind, I’d love to hear about it. Let’s create something beautiful together.
